Training Needs on the Emerging Facilitation Methods Among Adult Learners’ Facilitators in Oyo State, Nigeria

The paper examined the training needs of adult learners’ facilitators in the event of emerging facilitation methods among adult facilitators in Oyo State, Nigeria. New facilitation methods are evolving with advancements made in the use of technology for education and training. There are several studies conducted on adult learners’ facilitators that indicate new trends in line with the realities of new technologies. The problem this study addressed is the fact that little has been done to update the skills of facilitators on the emerging facilitation methods and knowledge needs of facilitators in Oyo State, Nigeria. Hence, the need for this study. Three objectives and three research questions were raised and answered. Descriptive research design was used for the study. The population comprised of all adult facilitators in literacy centers in Oyo State, Ibadan. A total sample of ninety-nine adult facilitators from all the thirty-three Local Government of Oyo State was used with total enumeration sampling technique. A self-developed questionnaire was employed for the facilitators. Findings showed that the usage of emerging facilitation techniques is lower when combining face to face with online learning and that there is a need for training in emerging facilitation techniques like content, digital skills, time management and evaluation processes. It was recommended that programs to raise awareness of the emerging facilitation methods for the adult facilitators and regular trainings in the facilitators’ areas of need, such as digital skills, time management, methodology, knowledge content, and assessment procedures should be organized.
